On May 9-10, the S4C meeting was held at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Management of the Jagiellonian University. With 20 participants on-site and over 10 online, we engaged in comprehensive discussions covering a spectrum of key topics aimed at strengthening the foundations of our network and developing joint initiatives.
Among the highlights:
Organizational structure: Intensive consideration was given to the optimal organizational framework for S4C. Various options were considered, including the possibility of registering as an association under EU law, establishing a foundation or formalizing it as a scientific society. The costs, benefits, and implications of each solution have been carefully examined to align our structure with our long-term strategic goals.
Membership dynamics: We have carefully explored strategies to expand our membership base, particularly by attracting and engaging young and early-career scientists. The initiatives under consideration are intended to increase the inclusion and vitality of our community.
Joint ventures: A variety of collaborative projects were proposed and discussed, covering topics ranging from forest ecosystem dynamics to tourism in the Carpathians. Each project carries the promise of deepening scientific knowledge and supporting the sustainable development of the Carpathian region.
Improving the network: Concrete steps are presented to increase the visibility and impact of S4C. These include valuing S4C in professional interactions, updating our website to improve security and accessibility, and leveraging partnerships to expand our reach.
